Mashonaland West Presidential Rural Poultry Scheme meant to benefit farmers was recently launched in Mhondoro Ngezi. The event held under the theme, ‘‘Building resilience through poultry production while leaving no place and


no one behind in rural development, to sustain food and nutrition security, "was officiated by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Mary Mliswa Chikoka. Officiating at the event, she urged the province to embrace the Presidential Rural Poultry Scheme the same way they had adopted the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme on other agriculture products. “The government has a duty to uplift the lives of its citizens, so we have come up with the Presidential Rural Poultry Scheme here in Mash West.

This project is an empowering project to you the people of MashWest, so there is the chance to uplift yourselves, so let go into poultry production the same way we did with pfumvudza concept in the fields, that is the same way we should do to poultry production. ‘Mash West has received 365 000 which will be distributed within the province and this calls for 36 500 households who are set to benefit from the Presidential Rural Poultry scheme,” she added. The honorable minister said that the government through the Ministry of Agriculture has come up with some interventions that will uplift and empower the citizens through agriculture such as livestock and growth recovery plan aimed at increasing livestock in the country. The launch saw Sanyati district getting 42 380 birds, Kariba got 28 250, Hurungwe 61 230, Chegutu 68 290, Zvimba 82420, Makonde 44 740 and Mhondoro-Ngezi 44 740. B
